- Your intent isn't clear... did you want to
- - call one system with a modem from another system with a modem, or
- - hook two modems back to back, so that two systems can each call one
- of the modems and be hooked together, like a conference number or
- meet-me number.
-
- In the first case, you must need appropriate communications software.
- The answering modem needs to be set to autoanswer, or the user on that
- system needs to issue an ATA command when the line rings.
-
- In the second case, you need to first disable the DTR function on the
- modems so they will autoanswer without DTR being high, (or if you want to
- be fancy, you could do it on just one, and tie carrier detect from the
- first to pin 20 DTR on the second, so the second won't answer unless
- someone is already connected to the first, and will disconnect when the
- first user hangs up).
- Then, you would connect the modems like so
- 2 <-- 3
- 3 --> 2
- 4 <-- 5
- 5 --> 4
- 7 --- 7
- and if you want the fancy part
- 8 --> 20 modem 1 to modem 2 only
-
- set hardware handshake on, autoanswer on, &D0 to ignore DTR,
- lock the port speeds.
